Dubai has recently won the right to host the World Expo 2020, with the theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.

With the announcement of Dubai’s Smart City initiative that will leverage the Internet of Everything to become one of the World’s most connected and sustainable cities this project came to realization.

The Smart Palm Project is an iconic fusion of easy access information, accessible WiFi and green technology (A Internet of Things/Smart City project). A green self-sustainable device recharge station and info point with complimentary Wi-Fi access. In order to achieve the idea behind the project, the product had to be realized with a unique invention process which brought together multiple disciplines including Industrial Design, Custom built hardware solutions, Software engineering and precise construction work. Three parts of the system had to be created: SmartHQ, SmartPoint, and SmartController.
SmartPoint solution incorporates the following technologies: AngularJS, HTML5, ASP.NET, MVC, Entity Framework, SignalR, Microsoft azure producing features such as: Solar energy monitor, Banking and exchange, GPS navigation, Weather info.
SmartHQ solution incorporates the following technologies: AngularJS, HTML5, ASP.NET, MVC, Entity Framework, SignalR, Stram Analytics, Events Hub producing features such as: Modern asynchronous control system, Real time data with map integration, Remote control and monitoring if each device in the system, Dynamic alarms, CMS (Content Management System), Comprehensive online media planning software.
SmartController is an IoT device used to measure and switch power supply for AC and DC consumers. It also serves as a USB charging controller for 8 smart devices. SmartController enables environmental sensing through sensors (pressure, temperature, humidity, proximity CO2, noise). Some of the tools used to create the device were: C/C++, Variety od modules that can be connected to controller’s temperature/humidity/Co2/proximity and vibration sensors.

Seating area is available next to each Palm for resting and relation during battery charging process capable of charging batteries 2.5 times faster than regular charging speed.
Special matrices oh photovoltaic modules were designed to power up Smart Palm with efficiency of more than 21% built to provide a complete power autonomy for each Smart Palm.
Smart City info is provided via multilingual and user-friendly community information app accessible through Smart touch screens.
